Doing Everyday Tasks and Nourishing Your Soul are Two Distinct Endeavours

Life is inherently complex. No matter how deeply you comprehend it, countless aspects remain unexplored, misunderstood, tangled, and even untouched.

Expertise in the Relevant Field

Even within your area of expertise, you might believe you know it well, but there are still aspects that are deeper and unseen until you delve further. Regardless of how far you dig, the depth continues. This applies to everyone in the world. Therefore, the first step is acknowledging where you are. Whatever you’re doing, believe that you’re doing it well.

Everyone desires to be busy. If you are busy enhancing your skills related to your field, that’s commendable. For instance, one may be occupied with developing strategies for smooth business operations, another might be busy gaining knowledge about the world through reading, or someone else might be engaged in raising kids and exploring various curriculum activities. Indeed, they are all demandable tasks which require constant attention.

Results vs. Bliss Switch

Everyone is busy every day, dedicating a significant number of hours to their mandatory work, contributing to evolution. However, engaging in important tasks doesn’t necessarily mean they are nurturing your soul.

The more logical and strategic one becomes, the more their soul may wander until they engage in activities that truly bring bliss.

Don’t misinterpret the previous statement, thinking that being logical is illogical. Being logical and constructive is as important as being silly sometimes. Both have their significance. It’s like a switch; one must know when to be which.

Breaking Professional Stereotypes

Being a scientist doesn’t mean you can’t choose to write on topics unrelated to science. Listen to Dan Ariely, a Behavioral economist, in his TED talk on ‘Are we in control of our decisions?,’ where he mentions wanting to write a book on cuisine.

Why must we see the world through the lens of our profession? Why can’t we be anyone else?

Why does a doctor have to look like a doctor after working hours? Why can’t they be a painter?

Why should a teacher, whether an employee or employer, only be seen as a giver after working hours? Why can’t they be served well or be seen as friends?

Why should a businessperson only discuss business ideas with peers? Why can’t they talk about raising children or other topics?

Why can’t a stage comedian be seen as a thoughtful speaker on sensitive matters?

Flavours of Experiences

Why do we need to be so particular about the things we do or perceive? We can embrace our differences even while engaged in familiar activities. It’s about having that switch, allowing us to step out of the box and engage in actions that nourish our souls.

Life is akin to the flavors of food. To savor its authenticity, we must add diverse elements, like different flavors, to our experiences.
